Natural, Toxin-Free Beauty Tips by Susan Henry

I

t's important to be eco-friendly with your beauty regimen for both you and the planet. The body absorbs its surroundings through the skin, eyes and inhalation. Here are eight easy tips.

1. Use paraben and sulfate-free sham- poos and conditioners.

2. Use ammonia-free, metal-free hair colors. Shades Hair Salon uses only NCP (natural color process) hair color developed by owner Susan Henry. The color is 100 percent ammonia- free, covers gray and can lighten hair six shades.

3. Use fragrance-free and paraben- free body washes with a vegetable glycerin base.

4. Use mineral-based make-ups.

5. Use formaldehyde-free and tolu- ene-free nail polishes like those from butter LONDON or Nubar Nails.

6. To achieve a finished look when styling hair, use a hair spray with low VOC.

7. Peppermint mixed with a little cinnamon leaf extract makes a great natural lip plumper.

8. Plant extracts such as lavender oil, orange oil, rose oil or vanilla extract make wonderful fragrances to replace perfumes. Peach mixed with a drop of cedarwood is a Shades’ favorite!

Susan Henry is founder and co- owner of Shades Hair Salon, located at 144 S. Doheny Drive, Beverly Hills. After suffering se- vere medical reac- tions from inhaling

ammonia-based fumes, Susan created a toxin-free environment from the de- sign of Shades to the products it uses. For more info, call 310-275-4882 or visit ShadesNaturalColor.com.
