prime minister’s defence secretary, Sergei Ivanov, and press spokesman, Dmitry Peskov. She also interviewed former US secretaries of state Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice. Other notable work includes Iran And The West for BBC2, The Death Of Yugo- slavia, Israel And The Arabs: Elusive Peace, Endgame In Ireland and Water- gate. A serial award winner, Percy’s recent gongs include the Orwell Life- time Achievement prize in 2010.
Lynne Ramsay Director
The fi lm based on Lionel Shriver’s best- selling novel We Need To Talk About Kevin has garnered several best director awards for Lynne Ramsay and marks a welcome return for the writer/director. Her determination to succeed in the face of adversity is inspiring. After the critical success of her 2002 fi lm Morvern Callar, Ramsay spent years working on the script for another novel, The Lovely Bones, only to have it taken away and handed to Hollywood heavy weight Peter Jackson once the novel became a best-seller. What makes her return even more amazing is that We Need to Talk About Kevin nearly didn’t happen either. Summit Entertainment, the company behind the Twilight movies, backed out of co-fi nancing the movie, forcing Ramsay to rewrite the script and cut the budget by nearly half.

Moira Ross Head of entertainment, Wall to Wall
This prime mover made her name exec producing Strictly Come Dancing and is still tasked with giving Simon Cowell a run for his millions. The former BBC entertainment editor left the corpora- tion at the end of last year to exec produce its new entertainment vehicle The Voice through Wall to Wall. The multimillion-pound show is set to go up against Britain’s Got Talent in the spring schedules, leading to the mother of all ratings battles. Ross will certainly have to sing for her supper at Wall to Wall, which acknowledged that her hire was a key part of the indie’s strategy to become a major entertain- ment producer. With her experience of overseeing The Eurovision Song Contest, So You Think You Can Dance, and series two and three of Dancing With The Stars, the company’s ambi- tions look safely secured.
Nicola Shindler Founder, Red Production Company
From Queer As Folk and Clocking Off to Exile and Unforgiven, Red Produc- tion Company has set the benchmark in quality, challenging TV drama for more than a decade. Founder Nicola Shindler is the fi rst port of call for many of the best scripts in develop- ment, and last year scored a massive
mainstream hit with Sally Wain- wright’s Scott & Bailey, which bucked the trend in crime drama with two strong female leads. Red’s 2012 slate is huge too: comedies and dramas both for the BBC (Anthony And Cleopatra and The Fuse) and ITV (Love Life and Leaving). Most ambitious of all is Paul Abbott’s Sky Atlantic/HBO produc- tion Hit And Miss. Rivals praise Red for its consistency and, in the words of one, “for not cashing in”.
Sue Vertue Producer, Hartswood Films
As the producer behind one of TV’s most successful shows, BBC1’s Sherlock, Sue Vertue’s power is felt by millions of people. The most recent series drew massive audiences to the channel. Before joining her mother Beryl Vertue’s company, Hartswood Films, Sue Vertue produced Mr Bean, The Vicar Of Dibley and Gimme Gimme Gimme. She keeps a low profi le, but has attracted more than 13,000 Twitter followers, and a single tweet on the future of Sherlock gener- ates headlines. The production is cur- rently the jewel in the Hartswood Crown. But Vertue doesn’t rest on her laurels – she’s currently working on series three of the acclaimed drama, and if it’s anything like as good as the fi rst two, it will surely add further success to her glittering career.
