Otham’s diamond ideas for Queen’s jubilee
A STONE plinth and play area repairs have been proposed by Otham Parish Council to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The parish council has sug- gested a small ragstone plinth be erected by the footsteps lead- ing off the green. Set into the top will be a direction plate commemorating the royal an- niversary with pointers to Downswood, Bearsted, Thurn- ham, Leeds, Langley and Will- ington parishes A fund was set up for the Sil-

cost is estimated at £1,000 for the memorial, and £5,500 for the play area, while the parish has only £4,800 in reserve. Donations towards the ex- penses are welcome and cheques should be made payable to “The Otham Enter- tainments Fund” and sent to the parish clerk or chairman.
Large solar park scheme resurfaces THE proposal to build a 5MW solar photovoltaic park in Lenham is back on the agenda. A year ago, German company Kronos Solar unveiled a proposal
for 20,000 1m-long angled solar panels within 40 acres of land north of LenhamHeath Road and the high-speed train line, just east of Boughton Road fringing Sandway. The scheme was shelved a few months later, prior to the sub- mission of a planning application, after the Government changed its feed-in tariff programme, which had made the scheme viable by obliging utility companies to buy electricity at above-market rates. The applicant has now lodged a formal application, which will be determined by Maidstone Council, for a similar scheme.

Cllr Dunford has lived in Bearsted for eight years and has two grown-up children. She has previously worked in education and healthcare and has run a charity. She now runs her own busi-
