(including a stay in a Scottish castle), a ski trip to Alta, Utah, and private lessons with Chris Kappler, Hap Hansen and Steffen Peters. One of the highlights of the event was the auctioning of a leather halter with brass nameplate, which was worn by the Trakehner stallion Abdullah, winner of the Olympic team gold and individual silver medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Games and Berlin World Cup in 1985. Abdullah’s halter alone, graciously donated by his owner, Sue Williams, raised over $5,000 for the Foundation. Other fundraising efforts include

an Annual Raffle to the Körung (Trakehner Stallion Approvals) in Neumünster, Germany. The trip includes round-trip airfare, ground transportation, tickets to the events (including the Gala Evening) and hotel stay. 2012 promises to be a very special year as this is the 50th anniversary of the fall approvals at the Holstenhalle in Neumünster. For Trakehner enthusiasts old and new, the fall approvals with mare show and auction represent the single biggest educational activity in which one could participate.

American Trakehner Foundation’s Grant Program The Foundation typically awards grants on a biannual basis. Grants are awarded on the basis of merit and to the degree to which it furthers the Foundation’s mission. Grants may be for competition both nationally and internationally, educational activities, and/or promotional activities that involve the Trakehner horse in some manner. Recent grant recipients include: Maxance McManamy and

The Foundation, it should be noted, does not restrict these grants to purebred Trakehner horses—registered part-bred Trakehners are also eligible. Other ATF activities include development of programs which unite emerging young riders with top Trakehner mounts, selective breeding programs aimed at producing outstanding competition horses, and producing a promotional video about the Trakehner horse.
