medal horse was the mare Absolute Liberty (by the New Zealand Sport Horse Aberjack, out of the Thoroughbred mare Chestnut Lady by Briartic, bred by Sharon Will of Florida) ridden by Bruce (Buck) Davidson, Jr., Ocala, FL. “It’s a great honor to ride for your country,” says Buck. “I’m very excited for Sharon Will who bred her and raised her and thought she was something
special. She went through a couple of people, but she landed in my barn and I’m very thankful.” “To be asked to represent the United States at the Pan
American Games—it can’t get much better than that! It just confirms my decision to give my horses the best opportunity possible,” says proud owner Sharon. Also contributing to the team gold for the U.S.A. was Lynn
Symansky, Middleburg, VA, riding her eight-year-old American Thoroughbred gelding Donner (by Gorky Park (FR), bred by Dresden Farm, Middleburg, VA). They finished the team competition in sixth place individually on their dressage score of 52.2, but due to Pan Am rules, only three horse/rider pairs from each country can move on to individual competition, and since four other U.S. combos ranked above them, they did not advance. Lynn has taken Donner, an ex-racehorse, from Novice all the way to Advanced. Three members of the silver medal-winning Canadian
eventing team rode North American-bred horses. James Atkinson, Mountain Road, MB, rode Carolyn Hoffros’ Gustav, a 12-year- old U.S.-bred Oldenburg/Thoroughbred gelding to tenth place individually. Selena O’Hanlon of Elgin, ON, and John Rumble’s eight-year-old Canadian Sport Horse gelding Foxwood High finished 18th individually in the team competition. Foxwood High (registered as High Society 3E) is by Rio Branco W, out of Evita II by Arabacus, bred by Epstein Equestrian Enterprises/KingRidge Stables, ON. Finishing 19th individually in the team competition was Hawley Bennett-Awad, Langley, BC, on Five O’Clock Somewhere, a 10-year-old American Thoroughbred gelding by Audio, out of QTRPastree, owned by Kimberley Barron, Susan Church and Bennett-Awad.
Show Jumping :
Show jumping was contested the final week of the Games. The only U.S.-bred horse identified among the entries was James T Kirk, an 11-year-old Thoroughbred-Warmblood cross, bred by Raylyn Farms, Inc., Frederick, MD, owned by Abigail Walker and ridden by Angel Karolyi of Venezuela.
