bred bulls that sold for an average of $3,092 and seven composite bulls that averaged $4,700, thus a $1,608 advantage to the composite bulls. The Angus breed had the largest numbers of bulls

formance tested bull sales in the Midwest. During the past 44 years, the sale has sold 4,458 bulls valued at over 7.5 million dollars according to Dave Seibert, Bull Sale Manager. There were four breeds – Angus, Simmental, Polled Herefords, and Red Angus – rep- resented in the 2012 sale. Highlighting the sale was a yearling Angus from

Kramer Angus, Farina that set a new IPT Bull Sale record going at $8,800 to Alta Genetics located in Wa- tertown, Wisconsin. The January 2011 bull called Kramers Mandate 112 will be moved to a ranch in California for the spring breeding season and then to one of the Alta Genetics Beef AI Studs located in United States or Canada. Alta Genetics has recently moved back into the Beef AI Business and will be of- fering the Kramer bull along with others to seedstock and commercial producers. The Kramer bull will also be used in international beef cattle herds in Ar- gentina, Brazil and Uruguay. Following close behind in interest generated at the

sale was a Rincker Simmental of Shelbyville senior division bull called RS Sturdi Built 759X that sold for $8,000. This was the third highest price of the 4,458 bulls ever sold at the IPT Bull Sale and purchased by Patyk Farms and Livestock of LaSalle, Illinois. The solid black polled composite bull weighed in at 1707 lbs with a 3.4 WDA for the sale. He was a very bal- anced EPD bull for the six birth, growth, and carcass traits. He also had a very successful show career being shown eight times and was never beaten in class including the Illinois State Fair. Patyk Farms and Livestock is a large scale seedstock and cow calf operation with cows in Illinois and Nebraska. The Simmental breed had their most successful IPT

Bull Sales ever with nineteen bulls averaging $3,684. This exceeds their previous high for Simmentals of $2,565 or $1,119 more set back in 2008. Both sales had similar number of bulls, 22 in 2008 and 19 in 2012, thus, interest in the Simmental breed was es- pecially strong at the 2012 sale. Following behind the record setting Rincker senior bull were two bulls that brought $5,000 each. The only red bull in the Sim- mental offering was a May 2010 senior division sold by Sunny View Farms in Alexander. This long bod- ied, heavy muscled bull weighing in at 1,940 pounds and was purchased by Turkey Foot Farms from Eliz- abeth. A second bull commanding the $5,000 price was from Rincker Simmentals. Rincker Simmentals had a very suc- cessful day with five bulls averaging $4,960. The next high selling bull at $4,600 was from Fox

Creek Cattle Company of Newton. This black polled February 2011 yearling purebred with excellent growth and carcass EPDs that fell in the top 30 per- cent along with excellent phenotype was purchased by Schuyler Boyden and Justin Schroeder of Milford.
