MORE PROPERTIES BEHIND THE COSTA BLANCA
Villalonga, near Gandia Price: €200,000 (£167k) This single-storey villa is amongst the orange groves of Valencia, just a fi ve minute stroll from Villalonga and a 15- minute drive to the Blue Flag beaches of Gandia and Oliva. It is 150m2 on a plot of 2,300, with three double bedrooms and two bath. The fi tted pine kitchen has granite worktops and white goods including a dishwasher. Outside are several terraces, and a 9.7x4m pool and fountain, nice and private behind banana trees with a lovely poolside terrace including a barbecue area. This is a very Spanish area – just far enough from Benidorm and Torrevieja’s tourists but far enough south for the warmth.

WHAT NEXT?
We’ve shown Marian and Bob four homes inland from the Costa Blanca and heard their reaction to each. So what is their next move?
Marian and Bob: “We really liked the properties shown to us, especially the fi rst one, which just about fi lls all the boxes. We would of course do a bit of DIY and gardening, and being retired means we would have plenty of time. The other houses are very nice too, but they’re above the budget I normally search. We have been very conservative in our budget as we don’t
know what our house will get us when we sell it in the summer – we hope that over the next six months UK property will rise in price and Spanish property fall – that would be very handy! The worst thing would be to fi nd our dream house, and not be able to afford it if the seller won’t budge on the price. It’s better to look at houses exactly on budget and then have some money left over if the seller will accept an offer. Moving costs have to come out of that as well and when we get there we will have to live on a state pension – that should be easier than in the UK, but we still have to be very careful. We aren’t expecting luxury and we’re quite able to do a bit
of titivating. Bob has plenty of tools including a cement mixer and can turn his hand to most things. In fact he’s done up the house we live in – but we don’t want to overdo it. I do like the look of Hondon de las Neives and we can’t wait until we go over in February to have a good drive round.
Hondon Valley Price: €275,000 (£230k)

Four of the bedrooms are in the west wing, and the main living area is in the large family kitchen in the north wing, with a shaker style kitchen with island, and a lounge with log burner.
