This fi nca (Spanish term for farmhouse) is in a convenient position very close to one of the most popular villages in Alicante. The house includes a covered terrace, leading into a lounge with a fi replace. The kitchen is a good size, fi tted with wood units, white goods and with internal door to the garage. Outside the garden is mainly graveled with various trees and plants, and has lovely mountain views. Marian may also appreciate the outside kitchen with bread oven, a wood cabin which contains the six-seater hot tub, and a small pool (which needs recommissioning). Or will someone be slaving in a hot kitchen while the other’s lazing in the hot tub?

THEY LIKE: • This property ticks boxes. It has the right location, price and size. • We like the outside kitchen – as a barbecue area and to bake bread. • Neither of us can swim, but the pool is great for visiting grandchildren. • The house looks like it needs just the right amount of redecoration – nothing too extensive.

THEY DISLIKE: • Not much! Maybe it feels a little too spaced out – and doesn’t seem to have great feng shui?

PROPERTY 2

Villa amongst the orange groves €135,000 (£112,408)

Where: Villalonga, Valencia

Property details: Ë Four bedrooms, one bathroom Ë Older villa, recently renovated Ë Comes with 6,000 square metres, mainly orange trees Ë 15 minute drive to beaches Ë Short drive to a busy town Ë Massive price reduction

For more details: Oranges and Lemons: www.orangesandlemons.com; 0034 96 285 3112

Picture yourself picking your own oranges for breakfast, sitting on your terrace enjoying glorious mountain views. When you hear about the property market in Spain being a buyers’ market, this is what it means; a four-bedroom, 50-year-old house with farmland for the price of a granny fl at in outer London. Renovated fi ve years ago, this house has been reduced by 50 per cent. In a peaceful location at the end of a lane, it’s not too isolated; you can see the edge of Villalonga in the distance. Inside the house is in very good order, with fi tted kitchen and wooden fl oors; outside, the orange trees are in well-kept terraces. Fifteen minutes away are the seaside towns of Oliva and Gandia, and the closest airport is Valencia.

THEY LIKE: • It has a really lovely kitchen, you could imagine yourself in it. • It’s a nice big house. Bigger than we really need in fact. • Free electricity from the solar system will be handy. • Looks isolated at fi rst glance but you can see houses in the distance…

THEY DISLIKE: • What would we do with all those oranges? Sell them, hopefully. • Could our view ever be spoiled by polytunnels? We would certainly try and prevent it.

• It is around £10,000 over our budget, and has no pool. 22 aplaceinthesun.com
