“Where’s the Best Place to Park?”

By Alex Israel

Alex Israel, Co-Founder and COO of Parking In Motion, will be speaking during the PT-sponsored Parking Industry Exhibition (PIE) March 18-21 in Chicago. Editor.

With the proliferation of the smartphone and increased use of the Internet, gone are the days when

people simply drive to their destination and then look for parking. More and more people are using parking informa- tion and real-time data to locate available parking before they leave for or when they near their final destination. This “parking availability information,” often in real-

time, provides numerous benefits to the public and creates opportunities for operators – specifically, greater lot and garage utilization, consumer retention and, therefore, increased revenue. In the digital age, upgrading your website or releasing

an app isn’t enough. The March 21 PIE seminar I’ll lead – “Apps, Information

and the City: Go High-Tech for Free” – is geared toward max- imizing parking revenue through the utilization of technolo- gy that speaks to the fundamental parking question “Where’s the best place to park?” This presentation will explain the differences between

“real-time data” and “static data,” and it will outline the ben- efits of “pushing” information to your potential customers. Detailed information regarding how operators are driv-

ing traffic to their facilities will be included, and the benefits to customers who use technology to find parking spaces will be explained. Attendees will find out which data are important and

how the data are used, and how they can take advantage of these initiatives. The session will explain how parking-location data are

best disseminated and where this technology is headed in the future. Specific examples of municipal and private parking operations that use this technology will be highlighted.

Learning Objectives

Seminar attendees will learn: 1. About “smart parking” initiatives that drive customers to their facilities.

2. How these initiatives integrate with the latest payment/PARCS technologies.

3. How to deliver relevant data to increase customer convenience.

COO Alex Israel founded, with CEO Sam Friedman, Santa Monica, CA-based Parking In Motion, a provider of dynamic and real-time parking data.
