BY LIZ SHACKLETON Mumbai-based Bombay Berlin Film Production (BBFP) is step- ping into international sales with Indian drama Prasaad, which is has its market premiere here at the EFM. Directed by Manoj Sati, the film


was financed by Bangalore-based production outfit AKK Entertain- ment. AKK was founded by


Indian businessman Ashok Kheny, who is constructing a media hub in Bangalore and also aims to build a film city with stu- dios and sound stages. The film tells the story of a man


who prays for two things: to win the lottery and to have a son. The Kannada-language drama


features South Indian stars Arjun Sarja and Madhuri Bhattacharya.

Between Us takes centre stage for Maya


BY JOHNHAZELTON Maya Entertainment Group has acquired international rights to Between Us starring Julia Stiles, Melissa George, Taye Diggs and David Harbour. Currently in post-production,


the film is based on the hit off- Broadway play of the same name and was written by Dan Mirvish and playwright Joe Hortua. Mir- vish directed, and produced alongside Hans C Ritter and Mike S Ryan. The film explores the bitter-


sweet friendships between two couples who meet as old friends. “Dan has adapted the play into


a truly cinematic experience,” said Elias Axume, president, interna- tional distribution for Maya. The deal was negotiated by


Axume and Maya’s director of acquisitions Tonantzin Esparza with ICM, which packaged the film and continues to represent North American rights.
