a sorcer- ess, spir- ited her sister the queen
into a tree. Ashlea Thorpe is the queen to Dave Frost’s king. The king was very un- happy at his loss. Then a wonderful band of gypsies arrived, cheered him up, re- leased the queen and the wicked sister re- pented. This is a lovely, happy story, very well written, directed and performed. Emmajo Isles-Holliday gives us some terrific cho- reography. It was an all-dancing, all-singing show. Jessica Jones sang a memorable God Help the Outcast. At the end of the first half, Topsy Turvy, sung and danced by the company, was great. Fay Hamlett’s Some- one Like You was a show-stopper. The entire cast danced as if their lives depended on it and there was great vari- ety of dance. The entire cast sang with wonderful smiles and an enjoyment that we enjoyed with them. Everyone on stage and back stage can be proud of the result. Thanks Harmony.
‘Tankie’ stamps up for auction
STAMPS produced to mark a military march through Maidstone this summer are to be auctioned by the mayor. Cllr Brian Mortimer, who lives in Coxheath, requested the special-edition stamps when
he heard the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment – known as the ‘Tankies’ – had decided to parade through the County Town for their homecoming from a six-month tour in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province. Only five sets of the 1st class stamps
were commissioned and a silent auction for two sets will raise money for one of themayor’s chosen charities, Help for He- roes. Cllr Mortimer said: “These stamps had
to receive approval from the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Mail and will not be repeated.” Bids – commencing at £80 – should be
sent inwriting to the mayor’s office at the Town Hall by January 26. The two high- est bids will win. The Tankies are based in the South
West but also recruit in Kent. Their com- manding officer is Lt Col Marcus Evans, from Broomfield, who is pictured in the council chamber being presented with one set of the stamps by the mayor in September.
