ROGER DAVIS 0117 9571703 Kingswood Clock Tower

Built in 1897 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria, it was intended to raise the money to build it from local subscription but not enough was donated to fund the whole cost of the Building, so whilst the foundation was laid for a much

taller building it was only funded to two thirds of the planned height. It was built by local Builder Mr A. Amos of Regent St for the sum of £142 approxi- mately,

the clock and mechanism was supplied by

Kemp Bro's of Union Street Bristol at a cost of £72.15.0d. The weather vane was £1.0.5d and the memorial tab- let cost £6.0.0. The Bristol side of the clock face was replaced in the 1940's after Bomb damage from the Bomb that hit the Ambassador Cinema. The Timepiece was origi- nally hand wound but is now electrically operated. (With thanks to Kingswood History Society)
