COMMUNITY NEWS & WHAT’S ON Kings Forest

Community Group Kings Forest Com-

munity Group continues to

work to maintain the housing interests of local residents.

Merlin Housing manage around 50 buildings, some-

times called schemes, that provide increasing levels of care to elderly or infirm residents. Once called sheltered housing, onsite wardens have been with- drawn and they are now called supported housing. Merlin Housing has assessed each building to find out if they are suitable for continued supported housing. The assessment mainly looked at access and ease of movement within the buildings and living accommodation, but other aspects such as access to local health services were also looked at. As a result a proportion of buildings have been found unsuitable for supported housing. Merlin Housing are talking to the residents of these particu- lar schemes and their families where appropriate to reassure them that their future needs will be taken care of and to discuss any options that may be available to them. Group have special expertise in supported housing and would like to hear from anyone affected by this assessment especially if they have any concerns about their future housing needs. Community walkabouts are now a monthly routine. We often report damaged garages that seem ne- glected and attract fly tipping and other anti-social activities. Merlin Housing has explained that they manage garages on behalf of South Gloucestershire but now it seems that South Gloucestershire Council are selling off blocks of garages. Again, if anyone is affected by issues concerning garages we would like you to tell us. Please come to our open meeting on the 14th of February at 7 pm. The venue will be the Suburbs Church Hall in Earlstone Crescent, Cadbury Heath, BS30 8AA. We will be welcoming a senior officer from Merlin Housing who will be talking about their ambitions for the future. Come and have a cup of tea and a chat. We would like more contact with residents so if you have something to say about housing please phone either Roger Chillcott on 01179679762 or Jim Whittaker on 07790234087, we would love to hear from you.
