As regular competitors will know, afternoons before the peg draw are a tense time for competitors. So, over the past two years, WCC


Team title sponsor, Carp Connections, has established an interesting and entertaining side attraction that takes place during the build-up to the main event, to add some spice for the teams competing – the Gladiator Games. This competition is an obvious crowd-


pleaser, with its mad-cap themes of wader- filling, rope-pulling and weight lifting, to name but a few! A team consists of three registered pairs


and the competition has a prize table for 1st, 2nd and 3rd best team. The winners are calculated on the combined weight caught by all 3 pairs. Each of the first three teams will win a


week long holiday for six anglers to Fishing resort Du Der. Over 100 acres in size, covering four lakes, the venue boasts an incredible stock of fish with 1,500 carp all over 20lbs+ and several mirrors and one common over 50 lbs this is a superb holiday. The Games takes place at Carp


Connections beach, Madine 2/3, just next to the sailing school, so, whether you want to take part or just watch the spectacle, there is

Connections’ Hans Sissingh and are run in association with JRC, Shakespeare and Berkley GULP, who provide some great prizes for the victorious gladiators as the spoils of war. Your host for the frivolities is none other


than Hans himself, who is sure to make himself heard with the aid of his trusty loud- hailer... you have been warned!


HOW TO ENTER: It is completely free of charge to enter the Gladiator Games, however, it is only open to registered teams who have signed up at HQ. So why not head on over to HQ, register your team. Events include:


lJRC Connection Range Tug-of-War: Something must give when 6 versus 6 strong men meet.


l Berkley Gulp! weightlifting in photo position: prove that you can handle a 30kg fish.


l Shakespeare Thigh Waders Run: ‘Thighly’ entertaining to watch ... and only for the toughest


l Banana Rods Casting Competition: Pin point accuracy will be essential in this event


l Yaris baitboats: Yaris baitboats will be available for competitors to use at this time.


Games for a laugh.. events include Tug-of-War, the Weightlifting Photo Position and the Thigh Wader Run, which will be spurred on by Hans and his loud hailer, left
