Welcome to Madine for the World Carp Classic 2011. As I am sure you will agree, Madine is a fantastic venue, and with many records being broken in each of the previous three events it excites me to imagine what might be possible this year.


Once again we can expect that familiar surge


of electricity as the famous World Carp Classic atmosphere kicks in, as it always does when anglers from all over the world converge on the banks to contest the title. All of this, everything you see and much more that you don’t see, happens because of you and is only possible because of you.. your participation in the event is absolutely vital to its existence. Old friends or new, as you arrive here to take part in this year’s event, I hope you enjoy every moment.. it’s a special time.


I would like to take this opportunity to thank Title Sponsor and Partners, JRC, for


their continued support of the event, also our section sponsors, and support, media and local partners too, for their participation and backing. It is also very encouraging that the high level of respect that the World Carp Classic has gained and has seen its global marketing potential endorsed by a good number of product launches and promotions.


This past year has been an incredibly fulfilling one for me personally and I am


eternally grateful for the support of my fantastic and loyal team. Year on year, we try to build upon what we have, always seeking new ways to enhance or improve the event. It is important to us to continually challenge what we have, then, set ourselves new targets as we strive to push the boundaries still further to build upon it.


With that in mind, this year saw the launch of Angling Spirit, created by me to


become the umbrella company for the events we now organise. The inaugural World Catfish Classic took place in June 2011 and was a hugely successful and enjoyable event. Alongside that event, an initiative named ‘Friends of the Ebro’ was born, and the resulting clean-up of the banks to address a serious environmental issue, was something that I can only describe as hugely gratifying. I cannot stress enough how thankful and proud I was of the assembled team who carried out the hard work, shifting what was later estimated to be 25 tonnes of rubbish from over 11km of bank, leaving it in a condition that locals say they haven’t witnessed for many years.


On that note, and remembering absent friends who have touched our lives, all


that remains for me to say is that I hope you enjoy your time here at Madine and that the World Carp Classic experience is a good one for you all. I wish you all the very best of luck and if Madine’s jewels reveal themselves to you, I may be shaking your hand at the prize giving! - After which, I will be making a very important and exciting announcement about 2012 that you really should hear.
