News in brief Villiers winners for Speak Out
www.villiers.ealing.sch.uk Proof that achievement
and attendance are linked THIS autumn term has revealed some interesting data regarding how attendance impacts on your child’s performance at school. 23% of our students (300 to be exact) have 100% attendance for this autumn term. Interestingly we notice these exemplary students showing up in data related to achievement and highest number of house points awarded. Read on.. Amandeep Dhanda, Raj Rohitchandra, Gaurav Shoor, Waseeq Akbari and Kirandeep Mutti are the Villiers Year 7 stars. Osman Mohamed Osman and Mayuran Krishnakumar are the Year 8 stars with another mention to Krzysztofa Wudzinska for achievement and house points. Abida Akbari and Mazharul Hoque are shining for Year 9. Year 10’s Adrian Paliwoda, Dominika Wudzinska and Shokat Arab are top for achievement and house points and finally, with 100% attendance, Year 11’s Syed Naman Ali and Abubakar Abdullahi Ali are top for achievement. Top 3 tutor groups are No 1- Pegasus 10 beating our school target at 97.1%, closely followed jointly by Aquila 1 and Cygnus 5 at 96.8%. Impressive indeed, and continuing to improve.
Sixth formers take note THIS is a clear message of the importance
of 100% attendance with a positive attitude to learning. Sixth formers MUST acknowledge this; ranking bottom of the attendance league. They realise the rigours of academic study at A level are significantly greater than at GCSE. They realise the importance of independent learning; a requirement of any university course they choose to undertake.
Stay focused and be disciplined If the temptation to miss a lesson becomes too great, the work will stack up; it won’t go away. Taking responsibility for one’s actions is a fact of life. Success comes at a price, beating the competition comes through sheer determination. Please encourage them to stay focussed and to be disciplined; it is their future at stake.
TWENTY five Year 10 students participated in a Jack Petchey Speak Out challenge workshop in October. The experience was invaluable in helping them gain confidence in public speaking skills which generated a diverse range of views on life in general. Congratulations to Ramanjeet Kuner and Sentha Jeyakumar who were voted overall winners of the day. They will compete against each other, in the hope of representing Villiers High School at the Ealing Regional Finals in January at Acton High School. More on this in next term’s newsletter.
Little Shop of Horrors
AUDITIONS for our school production saw unprecedented interest! Little Shop of Horrors is a winner for our budding actors who wait in anticipation for news of their casting. The production is scheduled for 28th and 29th March (a note for your diaries!). We pride ourselves in producing truly professional plays and musicals, requiring effort and commitment to make them outstanding. If your child is cast please ensure they can attend every rehearsal after school, and occasional Saturdays, closer to the time. This will be a performance not to miss!
