accommodation ratings
When you are booking your holiday accommodation, you need a rating system you can trust. VisitBritain (Enjoy England) (VB) and the Automobile Association (AA) have developed a system for rating accommodation based on quality and range of facilities and services.
All the establishments listed in this publication are members of one of the schemes run by the AA and Visit Britain, and every advertisement will contain the logo of one or both of these, showing the star rating of the establishment on a scale of one to five stars. The more stars there are, the higher the quality and greater the range of facilities and services are provided.
HOTELS are assessed by VB and the AA in the following categories: Hotel, Small Hotel, Country House Hotel, Metro Hotel, Town House Hotel and Budget Hotel. They must be licensed, offer dinner at least 5 nights per week (unless a metro Hotel) and have all rooms en suite or with private bathrooms.
GUEST ACCOMMODATION is assessed by VB and the AA as Guest Accommodation, Guest House, Inn, Bed and Breakfast, Farmhouse or Restaurant with Rooms. They tend to be personally run by their owners.
SELF CATERING ACCOMMODATION is assessed only by VB, All aspects of the accommodation are taken into account when the rating is awarded.
VB GOLD AND SILVER AWARDS FOR HOTELS AND GUEST ACCOMMODATION Silver Awards recognise exceptional quality at all levels and Gold Awards are given to the very ‘best of the best’.
AA ‘HIGHLY COMMENDED’ logos indicate the very best establishments within the three, four and five-star categories.
RATING APPLIED FOR At the same time of going to press, establishments showing the ‘Rating Applied For’ logo have joined the relevant scheme and are awaiting an inspection.
