DERMOT LYNCH Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing Nottingham Trent University What did you enjoy most
about the course?
Interacting with my peers and reflecting on contemporary marketing issues. The modern workplace often doesn’t afford the opportunity to approach marketing from this perspective. Also, learning how to make a hard-nosed and compelling case for marketing investments that is irrefutable at board level.
Finally, the critical importance of taking a market orientation within a commercially sensitive world and the dangers of regarding marketing purely as overhead.
What did you learn?
Undertaking the PPD has offered me fresh insight on what the role of a modern marketer entails. It has helped me to take a more holistic perspective on the ‘value’ I can provide through marketing activities.
Over the four course modules I have been exposed to business areas which have traditionally been considered beyond the remit of Marketing. This comprehensive approach has helped to develop my understanding of the Interdependencies at work within
my business.
How did you find the support from tutors and learning resources? Studying at NTU I have benefited from working with a dedicated and experienced staff and the ease of access to academic resources. In attending classes I found the input of my peers to be invaluable, particularly in transitioning to real world application of my learning within the workplace.
The CIM PPD represents a value-for-money investment. Employers are increasingly looking for demonstrable returns from qualifications which move beyond theoretical or academic understanding
Did your experience at NTU influence your future career path?
My experiences at NTU have informed my thinking on future career opportunities. To a certain extent it has helped me to narrow my focus around the areas of Strategic Development and Planning.
Further, within my existing role I have gained a great deal of recognition for my achievements with the CIM.
I would recommend the PPD to those looking to move beyond a tactical approach and realise the true benefits of strategic marketing.
