The Warner Library will present a free dramatic reading of Freedom Summer by Bill Tucker. The play focuses on the writer’s reminiscences and experiences in Mississippi in the summer of 1964, a summer in which an attempt was made to register as many African American voters as possible in MS where they had never had the right to vote previously. Junie B. Jones and her first grade antics take to the stage in this Theatreworks USA production presented at the Emelin. The production, based on the book series by Barbara Park, takes you through the life of Junie B. Jones, a young girl with a whole lot of spunk and imagination. When Junie stubs her toe playing kickball, she devises a clever way to help out her team. This show is recommended for ages 4 and up, and with shows at 11am and 3:30pm, there will be a music, dance, and fun-filled afternoon for the entire family. Tickets $18 adults/ $13 children. Set against the Civil War, a black woman tries to profit from selling goods to both sides to protect her adult children from their own heroic impulses.
