Sports stars to inspire school pupils
Sporting stars are to join Olympic sprinter Darren Campbell’s team of Athlete Mentors as they visit schools across the UK to help improve the lives of thousands of young people on behalf of Sky Sports Living for Sport. World champions and gold medalists will be visiting secondary schools to inspire the pupils to apply the life lessons learned through sport to all aspects of their
lives. The mentors will talk about challenges they have faced. Pupils will see how sport has enabled the mentors to overcome the barriers, providing proof that lessons learned through sport, such as determination, respect and confi dence can be applied to all areas of their daily lives to help them achieve their goals. Schools can register at

HILLS, RAIN AND TEARS!
Over 2000 runners took part at the end of October for the Snowdonian Marathon. The wind, rain and cold weather made for a tough run. One runner Rob Mole said: “It was so windy I felt I was running sideways and had to take my hat off before it blew away. At about the 24 mile point we started the steep downhill and I was back on pace, destroying my quads and hurtling past other runners. A couple of runners were crying out in pain as they shuffl ed downhill. It was a real achieve- ment to fi nish this race given the awful conditions this year.” Rob Samuel came in fi rst with a time of 2:36.45.
ON CAMP WITH
KELLY HOLMES Dame Kelly Holmes will be helping Great Britain bring home Olympic Gold medals next year as her mentoring programme ‘On Camp with Kelly’ continues to bring on young athletes. Research undertaken identified six key ways how the Camp has been supporting athletes since 2004 and contributing to their success - support, preparation, education, long term regular contact, injury management and one-to-one mentoring from Kelly. The benefits of this mentoring model are seen by the recent success of Hannah England who won a silver medal in the 1500m at the 2011 IAAF World Championships.
