Game, set and match for top carer Maggie!

TENNIS fan Maggie Town is a champion carer of old folk. She even missed her beloved Wimbledon fortnight to look after residents at Abbeyfield Greensted Care Home inWateringbury, where she works. Maggie, who lives in Maidstone, has just

won the inaugural Spirit of Abbeyfield Award for going above and beyond the call of duty. A spokesman for the Abbeyfield Kent charity said: “There were a lot of reasons why she won it. For instance, she started up a choir at the home in her own time, which has had a wonderful effect on the residents. “Last year, during the bad weather over winter, she slept at the home in case other people couldn’t get there to ensure resi- dents were cared for, and she regularly

brings in flowers for residents at the home. “One particularly striking story was how

each year Maggie takes two weeks off so she can enjoy Wimbledon fortnight, but this year the home found itself short staffed and, despite having her annual leave booked and struggling with a bad back, Maggie came in to ensure the residents were cared for.” She was presented with the award at Abbeyfield Kent’s annual award ceremony, which recognises the long service and com- mitment of its staff. Maggie was chosen from 35 nominations

and was accompanied at the awards cere- mony by two of the Greensted residents.  Abbeyfield Kent provides care to 500 older people at 16 locations throughout the county.

Pupils serve up tasty treat CHILDREN enjoyed waiting onMereworth vil- lagers who were invited to a very special school dinner. Twenty-five guests including some who at- tended the school during the FirstWorldWar, were treated to a slap-up meal of gammon, roast potatoes and vegetables, followed by apple crumble. The menu included produce grown at the school. The meal, which was organised by Mrs Julie

Clark and Mrs Emma Dean, was also enjoyed by 163 children. Its aim was to raise awareness of National Roast Dinner Day and to celebrate with village folk.

COULD YOU GIVE A CHILD A CHANCE ?

Integrated Services Programme (ISP) is an independent, not-for-profit childcare organisation providing foster care to children with a wide range of emotional and behavioural needs. We have Centres in Kent, London, Bucks and Sussex. We were judged “Outstanding” in our latest Ofsted inspections.

ISP looks after children from many different ethnic and cultural backgrounds including white UK, African, African-Caribbean, Asian and dual heritage. We are keen to recruit carers from similar cultural backgrounds. In addition, we are currently experiencing a high demand to look after: children with various disabilities, children who are involved in the criminal justice system and ‘parent & child’ placed together.

IF YOU HAVE: • life experience

• the ability to rise to the challenge of fostering • patience, determination & a sense of humour • no children under the age of 8 • a spare bedroom • a career change in mind
