PROJECT CASEBOOK

BUCKSHAW VILLAGE Leading a consortium team Redrow transformed a brown field site into an environmentally sustainable, mixed-use urban village. Together with former land owners, BAE Systems, and Chorley and South Ribble councils, Redrow devised an extensive planning and design process and also included a design code with a website and newsletter to keep residents informed of the progress of the development. Buckshaw Village consists of 2,000 homes, a business park and community facilities. 395 acres of land has been split with 35 per cent reserved for homes, 31 per cent for commercial space and 32 per cent allocated for green space. This balance also takes into account provisions for a primary school and other community facilities. With a blueprint that will allow for the village to evolve naturally over time, there is a range of housing styles with a village centre featuring town houses and apartments. Construction of the first new homes began in 2003 and the development is ongoing.
