COMPANY PROFILE M

ark Brazier-Jones is a master furniture and lighting designer, sculptor, artist and engineer extraordinaire. Testament to his success is that his work is held in the permanent collections of The Louvre and The Victoria & Albert Museum. Working mostly in metals, sculpting the legs and details to be cast in steel, bronze, aluminium, silver and gold. Glass lenses and cut crystals are used to great

effect creating soft dappled lighting. Mark wants his lights to flatter rather than create a harsh reality. Despite the often- flamboyant appearance of his designs it still applies that form follows function. “Explanation is the enemy of art,” states Brazier- Jones “Yes, form does follow function but part of furnitureʼs function is decorative, an attribute many modern designers overlook.” Mark believes in practical art

where the user engages directly with the work and it becomes part of their life. In a world obsessed with minimalism, which is another way of saying ʻmanufacture for less, retail for moreʼ his work contrasts in that there is detail and production value.

Much of the Brazier-Jones limited editions blur the boundaries between art and design and are regarded as truly original pieces. “I am making objects of desire from enduring materials, I have no need to be declared fashionable, I am working to a different timescale.”
