THE UNSIGNED BAND’S BIBLE!

BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE UNSIGNED BAND’S BRAND -

Hi, Well, here we are again mulling over the prospect of yet another long dark winter ahead. Still, when those long evenings start drawing in is when I find that my guitar practice regime tends to pick up the pace. During the summer there always seems to be something more to do and enough gigs to keep me from stagnating too much, so I don’t pick up the old banjo as often as I should.

One good way to keep on top of your playing is to set yourself a challenge; whether its nailing that tricky sweep picking lick that’s been testing your

digits for months or learning some new tunes for your repertoire of standards, there’s nothing like the satisfaction of finally conquering that peak that has stubbornly defied you for so long. Judging by the high standards of musicianship that I have seen at my local live venues recently, plenty of you have obviously been practicing like mad! Lately, the bands I have seen playing on my local circuit have been very good indeed, proving that the so-called ‘pub rock’ scene as it is now is much maligned. Think about it, for the price of a couple of pints you can go and enjoy a really top notch band in your local pub or music venue, with none of the hassles with travel, parking or rip-off beer prices you sometimes get with the big concert sheds. Now more than ever, it’s important to support your local live music pubs and clubs. Support the venues and they’ll keep supporting live music, the bands can keep working and buying the gear to keep the music industry going through these tough times. A lot of you are using social networking sites like Facebook to build up a strong network of musicians and venues, sharing info and gigs and keeping your local music scene alive and healthy. It’s all good, but don’t let the coming winter prevent you from going to gigs and supporting your local music venues, they need you!
