Dear parents and carers,

As you may be aware the Governing Body of The Grey Coat Hospital met this evening to discuss the proposal to convert to academy status. We gave careful consideration to all the responses which we received from staff, parents and the community during the consultation period.

I am writing immediately to tell you that the Governing Body resolved by a substantial majority to make a formal application to the Secretary of State for Education for conversion to academy status.

This is the beginning of a process in which we intend to keep all of you regularly informed. In particular, we wish to assure you now that the ethos of the school will be maintained and its name will remain as The Grey Coat Hospital.

The Governors have always sought to provide a rich curriculum and an outstanding learning experience for all students. This will be maintained in the context of academy status, which will also give us the freedom to enhance it.

I will write to you shortly with further information but thought it important to let you know our decision without delay.

With all good wishes,

Sophie Laws Chairman of Governors
