Ray Kohlruss’ Fishing tips for Ice Fishing in Northern Alberta


Northern Alberta is an outdoor enthusiast’s hidden treasure. There are many regions in this part of Alberta that offer countless opportunities to view Mother Nature’s artistry first hand: not the least among them, are the many pristine lakes and rivers to entice the fishing enthusiast.


The Athabasca region. Individuals who venture into this vast countryscape will find themselves immersed as if in a land before time, especially during the fall with it’s ever changing seasonal colors and plentiful wildlife. For fishing enthusiasts, this region contains more than 20 excellent fishing lakes - North Buck Lake, Baptiste Lake and Island Lake are but a examples - and rivers (e.g. the historic Athabasca River) each teeming with a variety fish species that can be targeted by the avid fisherperson, such as Northern Pike, Walleye, Yellow Perch, Rainbow Trout, Lake Whitefish, and Burbot.
