Become a sustaining member for life District Conference Update

Excitement is mounting within Limerick Thomond and Limerick Shannon Rotary Clubs as the final touches are being completed for the District Conference which is taking place from 22 to 25 September in the historic, diverse and creative City of Limerick.

The District Conference is a key event in Rotary in Irelandʼs annual calendar and the clubs have developed a programme that will provide a meaningful and memorable experience for all Rotarians and visitors while also providing great value for money.

As we are celebrating the centenary of Rotary in Ireland from February 2011, ʻRotary, The Next 100 Years ‑ A Life in the Service of Othersʼ has been chosen as the working conference theme. This theme is inspired by the statement attributed to Albert Einstein that "only a life lived for others is worth living."

The conference will showcase the work done at home and abroad by Rotary clubs in our District and will also celebrate the centenary of the Rotary Clubs of Dublin and Belfast. High profile speakers including Fergus Finlay, Minister Jan Oʼ Sullivan, Dr. Vincent Cunnane, Lord Paul Boateng, Rotary International President Representative Ron Beaubien, and RIBI President Representative Annmarie Harte will be present to celebrate and put in context the work that we do as Rotarians. Topics covered will include Community and Vocational Service within Rotary, Polio Eradication, Group Study Exchange Team Experience, and Effective Communication through interactive technology.

Conference activities will commence with Golf at Dromoland Hotel on Thursday 22 September and the evening will conclude with a Mayoral Reception at the City Hall, Limerick at 7pm.

A full conference programme on Friday and Saturday will be interspersed with other Partner Programme activities that include a historical walk, a visit to the Hunt Museum, a radio broadcast work shop by Lyric FM, deluxe shopping in Brown Thomas, and an entertaining night at the Dogs in Limerickʼs state of the art greyhound stadium. There will also be opportunities to experience Limerickʼs huge wealth of musical talent at different times during the conference.

Saturdayʼs activities conclude with the glamorous gala dinner and Sunday will finish with a presentation from Everest Conquerors Gavin Bate and Mark Quin. Book your place now at www.rotaryconference.ie – more information also on Facebook Rotary District 1160 Conference 2011.
