Wins in Europe - next stop NY!

A SEVEN-strong team from the karate club based in Kingswood returned from the European championships with a haul of medals. It was the first time they had competed at international level for England. In the boys’ event, Jack Cutler

(13) and Adam Axford (12) faced each other in the final after fighting through the quali- fying rounds, with Jack tak- ing gold. Jack, who has trained with the

club since it started in 2005 and was its first junior black belt, also took silver in the boys’ kata competition. In the girls’ event, Christine Bordean (12), won bronze medals in both her fighting and

kata events. Elle Osborne (15) and Saman-

tha Riddell (16) both performed well in their individual events but narrowly missed out on medals. On day two, in the adults’ sec-

tion, club instructor Chris Simpson took silver and his daughter Katie led the ladies’ fighting and kata teams to silver and bronze medals respectively. Katie added two individual medals herself, giving the club a grand total of nine. Mr Simpson said the results

had proved the worth of form- ing a development squad to “bring on the kids”. The aim now is to compete in the world championships in New York next year, he added.

Dog walkers banned from farm A FARMER has banned access to his fields at Boughton Monchelsea because of the amount of dog mess being left there. Anotice has been posted on the parish website that anyone walk-

ing their dogs at Camp Field Farm could be prosecuted for trespass. The parish council was notified by the farmer that, due to the amount of dog fouling in and around his fields, he had no option but to ban all access to the farm. The parish council said: “This has come

about by a few inconsiderate owners who are still not clearing up after their dogs.” A control order is already in place prevent- ing dog walking in the recreation ground.

and replace with eight detached houses with garaging. The planning statement says it will be “a new area

with a separate entity based on a Kentish style of de- tailing as it would not be warranted or possible to build to a style replicating the ’60s approach of Valley Drive. “Over the decade the borough has seen very few low density schemes as the emphasis has been on flatted schemes. “This scheme promotes detached family housing which is needed to rebalance future housing supply.”
