Staplehurst gets new rector
THE Rev Silke Tetzlaff has been named the new rector of All Saints Church, Staplehurst. She is currently a team vicar for three parishes in the diocese of St Alban, Herts, and will be inducted to the rec- torship on Thursday, November 24 at 7pm. Rev Tatzlaff was born in Rostock, Germany, where she qualified and practised as an audiologist and speech therapist, then worked at a medical school and taught audiology for two years. “Then my life took a change in direction when I began my theol-
ogy studies in Berlin with the intention of becoming a Lutheran pas- tor,” she said. After studying theology studies at King’s College, London, she was ordained in St Albans and did a four-year curacy at a church in Luton before taking up another role in the town almost five years ago.
She added: “I guess for a few month it might seem that we’re on
an endless round of the TV show Blind Date as I try to find out, in the words of Cilla Black: ‘What’s your name and where do you come from?’ But don’t worry,my interest is only inmatters spiritual!” She will replace the Rev Canon Gill Calver, who retired in January.
A PROPOSAL to replace a bun- galow in East Farleigh with a new home has been turned down. Mr Caudwell applied to de- molish an existing dwelling and outbuildings in Hazeldene, Dean Street, because the home “does not meet today’s stan- dards expected by the average growing family”.
Bungalow would be ‘visual intrusion’ Maidstone Council refused
the application, claiming that the replacement home and de- tached double garage “would, by reason of its height, bulk and mass, be a more visually intrusive development than the existing bungalow it would replace to the detri- ment of the character and ap- pearance of the countryside.”
Solar schemes accepted
THE installation of solar photovoltaic panels in Westerhill
Road, Coxheath was allowed on condition that security fencing shall be painted green. In February, the planning committee deferred GML Construc-
tion’s application for Orchard House for an ecological survey. Officers have now decided that the scheme should go ahead. SIMON Allfrey was given consent to erect 58 240w solar PV panels at Clock House, Heath Road, Coxheath. The panels, each measuring 1.6 by 1m,will be laid out in three rows. An inverter housing unit will also be installed. TIM Springhall was given planning permission to install
solar PV panels on the roof of an outbuilding at Little Cheveney Farm, Sheephurst Lane, near Claygate. NIGEL Edmedwas given permission to install solar PV pan-
els at Street Farm, Chartway Street, Sutton Valence. FORTY solar panels are to be installed on the roof of an agri- cultural building at Reed Place Cottages, Dairy Lane, Marden, after Maidstone Council granted planning permission.

plan refused JOHN Luscombe’s applica- tion to erect an open pole barn for the storage of ve- hicles at Riverland, Herts- field Farm, Staplehurst Road, Marden, was re- fused.
Maidstone Council con- sidered that the proposal’s “excessive size…would be harmful to the character and appearance of the open countryside.”
