Pony Club Champs Every other year, U.S. Pony Clubs from


around the country converge on the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky for a week- long national festival. T e festival includes educational activities and demonstrations, and more importantly, the USPC National Cham- pionships. Pony clubbers compete in Dres- sage, Eventing, Games, Polocross, Quiz, Show Jumping and Tetrathlon to see which region has the best riders in the country. T is year, the Free State was well represented both in sheer volume of members and the number earning spots in the various awards ceremonies. In Dressage, the Maryland region team placed


third at Training Level. T e Delmarva region fi elded three Training Level teams, which placed fourth, sixth and ninth. At First Level, the Maryland region team earned fourth. Maryland and Capital regions combined with


South and Metropolitan regions to form a Pre- liminary Event team. T e team placed third overall. At Training level, the Maryland/Mid- Cal/Southwest team earned third place while the Maryland region team placed ninth. T e Del- marva/Eastern Pennsylvania team placed 10th. T e Maryland/Sunshine/Southwest/Inland


Empire team earned fi rst place in the Novice Eventing division. In second was the Delmarva/ South team. T e Maryland region teams placed


fi fth and 17th. Delmarva/Eastern Pennsylvania earned sixth while the Delmarva/Sierra Pa- cifi c team placed 18th and the Delmarva team placed 11th. Capital/Western New England/ Camino Real earned 10th and the Capital team placed 21st. T e Delmarva Beginner Novice Eventing team earned 11th. T e Maryland region teams placed 14th and 18th. T e Junior Games teams that took home the most honors at the championships! Teams from the Maryland and Capital regions took fi rst through fourth and sixth place. T e Maryland region Wild T ings team earned the top spot. In second place was the Capital region Hyperac- tive, followed by Capital region’s Danger Zone. Maryland region Frootloops earned fourth with Maryland region Pirate Ponies placing sixth. In Senior Games, Hot Enuff placed fi fth and Maniacs placed seventh. Both teams hailed from the Maryland region. Maryland region Star- struck earned second place in Advanced Games. Maryland region Flying Colors fi nished third. Alex Harvey was the only Marylander to com- pete in Polocross. He rode on the fourth place scramble Novice team Too Hot to Handle. T e Junior D Quiz competition had the larg-


est fi eld of participants with 40 teams. T e Del- marva team placed 10th with the Maryland/


Delmarva team fi nishing 12th. Capital region’s team fi nished in 27th place with the Maryland/ Tri State team placing 40th. T e Capital/West- ern NY Senior D team fi nished in 16th place and the Maryland region team fi nished 18th. In the Senior C/HB/B competition, the Cap- tial/Rio team earned 10th. T e Maryland region Team 1 earned the top spot in the Developing Rider Show Jumping division. In that same division, the Capital/ New York/Upper Connecticut team earned eighth and the Maryland region Team 2 placed 15th. T e Maryland/Rio team earned second place in the Modifi ed division with the Capi- tal/Red River team placing third. Maryland came home with a win again in the Regular division with their Maryland/Midwest/New Jersey combo team. In Tetrathlon, Maryland region’s Julia Dukes


won the Novice Girl division. Melissa Judge placed third and Hannah Keller placed fi fth, both for the Delmarva region. Ben Grissom (Maryland region) placed third in the Novice Boy division. Kara Muser placed third in the Ju- nior Girl and Morgan Gizzi placed fourth in the same division. Both girls are from the Maryland region. Robert Bowersox won the Junior Boy division for the Delmarva region. Zak Grissom placed second for Maryland region.
