Deco D
ivestyle magazine is going green. Everyone all
over the world talks about
recycling and going ‘green’ and we all try to do our little bit to combat global warming and save the planet. That got me wondering about how Divestyle magazine could help in the battle against global warning. We do cover and write
articles, and have for many years, which educate divers about the environment and their role in protecting it. But is that enough? As you may have notice,
the magazine has moved printers meaning that Divestyle is now published on a much better quality paper. Yet with that comes a price, and not just a rand value, but an environmental one too. As one of the leaders in the diving industry, we knew that we would have to make a stand. In an effort to do our
bit for the world and practice what we preach, we have thus made the decision to start
Ed’s
printing on recycled paper. But would you believe that recycled paper costs more than new paper? The reason for this is that the process that the paper has to go through to get it ready to print on is almost double the price as that of new paper.
But this didn’t stop us
from making the change. We found printers that use the off-cuts and leftovers of sugar cane after it has been processed which is then recycled to make paper. This process is cheaper than normal recycled paper, making it more affordable for us to print the magazine. With this new recycled
paper that we are using, we can say that Divestyle magazine is now ‘green’ and we hope that we can set an example to all the other magazines to go the same route and not cut down thousands of trees to print their magazine.
