Pur- chasing a few tiles, Parviz brought them back to his shop, where customers not only bought them imme- diately, but they wanted to know more about the tiles’ history. It’s a history that depends on where the tiles originat- ed from, Parviz explained. “The main difference be- tween Eastern and West- ern art is that Eastern Art tends to focus more on the spiritual side of life.” And according to Parviz, this difference results from the fact that since renderings of portraits or figures in the Middle East were tradition- ally forbidden, artists used geometrical lines to convey the “beautiful or heavenly aspects of life.” The designs for the tiles were then re- flected in the weaving rugs and fabrics, said Parviz for how the tradition of Orien- tal rugs and tiles “go hand in hand.” “Finding the tiles and learn- ing about their history was a source of treasure in my- self, a gold mine of cultural

Many of the tiles will only cost twenty dollars apiece, said Parviz, adding that they will be installed into people’s homes from the shop. Several people have already purchased tiles and have had them installed into wall decorations or as table centerpieces, said Par- viz. In addition to the tiles, the gallery will sell plates and bowls.
