Foodhall and Lounge said, “The Barbican Centre is such an iconic cultural space and in developing the design concept and interiors for both the Foodhall and Lounge we wanted to ensure that we created two distinct spaces which reflected the two distinct offers. We are honoured that the judging panel at the Restaurant and Bar Design Awards have recognized the work by SHH and look forward to a successful night at the awards ceremony in July.” Helen Hughes, Senior
Designer at SHH and lead designer on both projects, added: ‘It was a fantastic opportunity for SHH to work on both spaces within this great building and to help achieve the repositioning asked for in the brief. It was also great to collaborate with some really talented designers and the whole project was very much driven by a collective spirit.’ Totally independent, the
UK and International Restaurant & Bar Design Awards are the only concept of its kind dedicated exclusively to design. The Awards invite and
receive entries from the world’s top architects, designers and hospitality operators. The winners of the
various categories including the best designed restaurant and the best designed bar, will be announced at an Awards ceremony and party at the East Wintergarden, Canary Wharf, London on the 7th July 2011.
Honouring the original Richard Rogers building
dates July 11 - Jan 12
The Interiors Group have implemented Scott Brownrigg’s Design for the Russian financial services providers, Otkritie, for the expansion and relocation of the new offices inWood Street, City of London. The Richard Rogers building has large diagonal bracings, which spanned over several floors on two of the external faces, which are visible from the inside. The Interiors Group, along with Scott Brownrigg, came up with the solution that the ethos of the scheme was to use contrasting materials juxtaposed with strong
design lines. The reception and twelve people boardroom was relocated off the lift lobby with views over the Barbican. With the view being such a wow factor a minimal reception space was created by using clean strong lines and muted colour. In reference to the diagonal architectural bracings seen from reception several diagonal seamless slot lights were fixed in the ceiling, which ran down the abutting walls. The trading floors and other areas were designed and furnished to complement Richard Rogers’s renowned colour scheme.
High-concept at The Gallery
HBA, one of the world’s largest hospitality design firms, has announced the formation of The Gallery, an HBA Company which will focus exclusively on high-concept, bespoke projects for clients seeking to achieve a unique guest experience. Based in HBA’s London studio, The Gallery will work throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East creating and delivering original interior environments that interpret the spirit of the age afresh each time. The Gallery, under the direction of Inge Moore, Principal of
HBA London, comprises a truly international team of like-minded creative individuals, hand-picked for the particular creativity, energy and experience that they each contribute to the design process. Fundamental to The Gallery’s approach will be the development of a narrative – a framework for the design concept and a source for the design details, which together elicit an emotional reaction to the environment and create a process of discovery for the guest. This narrative may be
extended by The Gallery beyond the interiors into products, books and other accessories to complete the guest experience.
