TWC goes forWettest The Weinstein Company is said to be close to acquiring domestic rights on John Hillcoat’s The Wettest County. CAA and Cassian Elwes represent domestic rights to Benaroya Pictures and Annapurna Pictures’ Western, about Depression-era bootleggers in the American South. It stars Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Mia Wasikowska and Gary Oldman. FilmNation handles international sales.

Bliss EoF promotes first-time
directors by securing national distribution and festival screenings. The scheme has announced two new partners: distributor Cinefile (UK) and the Gal- way Film Fleadh.
Wide has also announced
a ‘godparent’ scheme, where famous actors and actresses lend their support to EoF-chosen talent. The first confirmed ‘godfather’ is Jean-Marc Barr (The Big Blue, Breaking The Waves).
Buyers are feasting on El Bulli, Cooking In Progress, sold by Autlook. Deals have been done with Japan (Doma), Australia (Madman), Germany (Alamode Films), France ( Zootrope & BAC Films), Canada (Kinosmith), US (KinoLorber), Switzerland (Praesens), Benelux (Cinema Delicatessen), Poland ( Against Gravity) and Scandinavia (NonStop).

Nick Cheung who will walk the red carpet, will screen as part of an evening of action films which also includes the international premiere of French film The Assault. Indian actress Asin will
walk the red carpet for Ready, in a Bollywood trib- ute which also includes Shah Rukh Khan in a sneak preview of his upcoming sci- fi superhero film, Ra.One. The opening night will
feature a special presenta- tion of Chinese thriller The
Devil Inside Me along with footage of upcoming Chi- nese-language films The Mural and Speed Angel. Japan Night will feature
international premieres of Warner Bros’ Japanese pro- duction Paradise Kiss and 3D concert film May’n The Movie — Phonic Nation. Hollywood blockbusters
Mr Popper’s Penguins and Super 8 will be showcased, along with closing film Larry Crowne. Singapore night will feature interna- tional premieres of Where The Road Meets The Sun, directed by Yong Mun Chee, and Jesus Henry Christ, a US production which has Sin- gaporean producer Sukee Chew on board. ScreenSingapore will also
feature closed door presen- tations by the US studios to Asian exhibitors on June 8.
