Gian-Piero produced Angela Schanelec’s Afternoon before working as a producer the following year on Wim Wenders’ The Palermo Shooting. He then produced Schanelec’s next feature Orly as well as Wenders‘ 3D dance film Pina. Gian-Piero is currently involved in the development of Wenders‘ Everything Will Be Fine and will co- produce Bogdan Mustata‘s project Wolf which is part of Cannes‘ L’Atelier.
What kind of films and genres are you interested in? I am looking for entertaining, exciting stories with crossover potential and strong protagonists. I am interested in films with genre-elements, but it might also be completely genre so long as the story and characters have depth.
What do you want to get out of PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE and Cannes this year? I‘m looking to broaden my European network and meet with possible co- production partners for Wim’s new project Everything Will Be Fine and as a minority German co-producer. Another goal is to find at least one arthouse 3D project that we could produce next year.
What do you think are the main challenges facing the European film industry over the next five years - and how can we meet them? We are facing a lot of problems, but there are also new opportunities like 3D or the increasing number of distribution and marketing platforms. But I am more worried about one of the oldest issues: our directors. We need to create the conditions to enable up-and-coming directors to develop their own style, handwriting and creativity.

maria@haosfilm.com www.haosfilm.com
Maria joined HAOS Film in 2007 and has worked as a line producer on all the company‘s films. Her first producer credit was for Athina Rachel Tsangari‘s award-winning Attenberg which premiered in competition at last year‘s Venice Film Festival. Maria is currently Head of Production on HAOS Film‘s new production of Yorgos Lanthimos‘ Alps which is in post-production.
What kind of films and genres are you interested in? I admire filmmakers who are free from any preconceptions and transcend the limits of “genre.” Kubrick, for example, is one of my heroes. Filmmaking is best when it reflects someone’s personal stylistic and/or thematic obsessions. A true vision is what interests me.
What do you want to get out of PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE and Cannes this year? European cinema urgently needs creative and visionary producers. I am hoping to meet and network with people who share the same passion as I do, for pure cinema!
What do you think are the main challenges facing the European film industry over the next five years - and how can we meet them? The European film industry could benefit by limiting its tendency to homogenize itself into “euro-pudding.” While respecting its explosive, schizoid mixture of national multiplicities, it should also rediscover its guilt-free national cinemas of Fellini, Bergman, Godard and Fassbinder. Easier said than done!

Joonas has been working in the film industry since 1998, with such credits as the documentaries Boys of the Class, The Smoking Room and A Shout into the Wind, and the fiction short Visitor. Apart from producing, he is also a film director, most recently on the documentary Steam of Life. Joonas is currently producing the fiction feature Silence and the documentary Canned Dreams.
What kind of films and genres are you interested in? I’m interested in documentary films and strong drama productions.
What do you want to get out of PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE and Cannes this year? I would especially like to meet fiction producers and start networking to find co-producers for my upcoming fiction film.
What do you think are the main challenges facing the European film industry over the next five years - and how can we meet them? It seems that the national broadcasters are cutting back their funding all over Europe. At least, that‘s the reality in the field of documentary. So far, I haven‘t come up with or seen any good solutions to this problem.
