1. The recommended feeding rates should not be exceeded by more than 10% 2. Any feed changes should be made gradually over a period of 7 to 10 days 3. Changes in the rate of feeding should not exceed one pound per day for each horse 4. Feed at regular times – at least twice daily – with three daily feedings preferred 5. Reduce and/or delay feeding a horse that is hot, excited or showing pain, fever or diarrhea 6. Let horses feed in a natural position from troughs with large bottoms placed at head height or lower 7. Have plenty of fresh water available at all times 8. Maintain an effective control program for internal parasites. Be sure horses are free of dental problems 9. Observe your horse’s condition daily. Consult your veterinarian if any problems arise
