Branger Horse Training

BaDGers GranD slaM 1995 AQHA Bay Stallion

After receiving his degree in Ag

Business at Montana State University, Eric Branger decided to learn more about horses like those he had been riding since he was a kid growing up on his family’s cattle ranch near Ennis, Montana. Branger worked for two years for Snaffle Bit Futurity Champion Zane Davis, who introduced him to reined cowhorses. “I trained a lot of colts under his

guidance, and learned all I could about training cow horses in a calm and patient manner,” explains Branger. “I like to work on getting softness in a

horse, especially the hip and shoulder. A rider needs to be in complete control when a horse is moving at a high rate of speed and so I like to work every day to find the area a horse is stiff in — to work on that to make a safer and more enjoyable horse.” Another of Branger’s mentors is Mike Bridges, an internationally- known clinician and bridle horseman in the California Vaquero style, who emphasizes soft, natural horsemanship. In 2007 Branger began his own business in horse training, and lives with his training partner and wife, Annie, and their child (with another on the way) on an Angus cattle operation — the historic Mulvey Ranch near Boulder, Montana. The Ranch provides an indoor training facility, fresh cattle to train with, and miles of scenic country to ride in. Branger usually has a handful of cutting prospects and honest, well-broke ranch horses for sale. He is currently scheduling new horses to train for June and July.
