When we feed the horses their morning hay,
our cute little gelding makes our day.
He eyeballs us and then he sends
us a whinny like we’re his best friends.
I think this means he’s accepted us
as people he can surely trust.
It also means he’ll soon be eating,
so happy is his high-pitched greeting.
We look forward every day to his salutorious, expressive neigh.
The pleasures of horse folks are many
and one of ours is that morning whinny.
