ideal avenue to bring together international and local talent with public participation. During symposiums artists work in publicly accessible locations and their creations stay in the community for residents and tourists to enjoy.

We also discussed the idea of starting a sculpture school for local talent in the community of Gracie Rock, near our property where Jock intends to build a winter studio. This would facilitate education and employment opportunities for local participants, while giving Jock the oppor- tunity to teach and inspire an appreciation and hopefully passion for the arts.

With his background in art history, Jock also proposed assisting with the production

of replicas of Mayan art. This would entail taking molds from the original pieces with permission from the Director of Archeology, as well as carving replicas out of stone, again using local materials.

We were very excited to hear that the NICH board of directors is incorporating our ideas into their strategic plan, being open to collaboration in the coming years. Our timing could not have been better.

House we’re building at the Black Orchid Resort under construction.

It looks like we’ll be back as our love for nature, warm weather and art ties into an ongoing adventure. You never know what can happen when you look at pictures of a piece of jungle and say to your friends: “Sure – let’s buy it.” By the way, our plans for the land will incorporate eco-friendly development and preservation of the rainforest and its wonderful inhabitants. But that is a whole other topic.

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) DVT occurs when a large clot forms in the leg, causing it to swell, become tender and sore. If the clot breaks off, it may travel and lodge in the lungs, causing shortness of breath and chest pain. In more severe cases, death may occur.

Immobility during long travel may lead to DVT in people with risk factors. • personal or family history of DVT or pulmonary embolism

• using estrogen for hormone replace- ment or birth control medication

• recent trauma or surgery to legs, abdomen, pelvis cancer

• blood clotting abnormalities

Ensuring movement every 2-3 hours, like walking or fl exing the legs, is a simple way to prevent DVT.
