‘Now please give us the

promised yellow lines!’ Junction jobs

LOCAL KCC councillor Ian Chittenden said: "What’s been agreed is double yellow lines at the bottom of Tudor Avenue at the junction with Park Avenue, at its junction with Norman Close and at the top at its junction with Sit- tingbourne Road.” But as the Downs Mail went

to press, Cllr Chittenden had still not been given a date for the work by KCC.

A LOW loader that got stuck on kerbside stumps perfectly illus- trates residents' calls for parking restrictions in their road. The Tudor Avenue cam-

paign has been running for years - and families thought they had finally achieved a breakthrough when Kent County Council agreed to paint yellow lines on the corners of certain road junctions. They were told the work would be done early in the New Year. But no lines had appeared by March 15, when this hapless driver caused Tudor Avenue to be closed for several hours.

Because motorists were still legally able to leave their vehi-

draulic braking system on the wooden posts and had to call for assistance. A policeman's bicycle

was used to block one end of Tudor Avenue and offi- cers redirected traffic at the Norman Close end. One resident, Richard Sissons, joked: "For a change it has been won- derfully quiet down here! Usually we're used as a rat-run as well as having cars parked all the way along here."

trates just why we have been calling for yellow lines for all these years."

Schoolboy error

older friend to speak to the pe- tition as he was under 18, so not old enough under the coun- cil rules. In September, the council agreed to remove the age limit after objections by Anthony. However, the teenager re-

turned to quiz Cllr Garland at March's full council meeting al- leging that the constitution had not been amended to reflect that decision - even though more than 100 working days had since elapsed. Cllr Garland said a new ver-

sion had been uploaded on the website in February. Not so, replied Anthony, reading from the constitution to prove his point. "This has clearly not been sorted out. What is going to happen?" The leader, now more con-

trite, told him: "Thank you for bringing it to our attention. We will look into it." Afterwards, Anthony said the council had made a "schoolboy error" in not updating the con- stitution. "I think I would be in trouble if I hadn't done my homework after 100 days!" Council spokesman Roger

Adley said the changes were made to the under-18 rule on petitions but not to other issues relating to age, which are still subject to national law.
