Sri Karunamayi Visits Tucson
Amma
March 27 Sri Karunamayi will offer spiritual discourses and individual blessings. “Sri” is an honorific prefix, and “Karunamayi” literally means “compassionate Mother.” She warmly receives all who approach her as her beloved

ri Karunamayi, venerated in India as a living incar- nation of the Divine Mother, will again be visiting Tucson. During her visit from March 24 through
children. Sri Karunamayi is addressed as “Amma,” which simply means “Mother” in her native language. Before Amma’s birth, the great saint Ramana Maharshi told her mother she would give birth to the Divine Mother. In her childhood, Amma delighted all who met her with her deeply compassionate nature and intuitive under- standing of holy scriptures. Though she had never studied Sanskrit, she amazed scholars as well as her family with spontaneous insights into the inner spiritual meaning of sa- cred verses. As she grew into a young woman, Amma spent more and more time immersed in prayer and meditation. At the age of twenty she withdrew to a sacred forest in south- ern India, where she meditated in silence for ten years on behalf of all humanity. When she emerged from this period of silence, having determined which of the ancient teach- ings would be of greatest benefit to modern day people, Amma began her mission to share her divine wisdom and love with the entire world. Although she grants initiation and guides those who request her help on the spiritual path, Amma comes to seekers not as a guru but as a loving mother who provides spiritual sustenance to her children in their quest for self-realization. Amma will visit Tucson from March 24 through March
27. On Thursday, March 24, at 7pm, Amma will give a spiritual discourse and darshan (the blessing of her pres- ence and spiritual power) at Unity of Tucson, 3617 N Camino Blanco. On Friday, March 25, from 10am to 1pm, Amma will offer individual blessings and Saraswati Diksha (mantra initiation), also at Unity of Tucson. On Sunday, March 27, Amma will conduct a sacred fire ceremony at a private home in the Tucson area. All events are free. For more information, visit
