been showing in sidesaddles for well over a hundred years and many breeds allow or even wel- come riders showing their mounts under sidesaddle tack, the Ameri- can Quarter Horse Association forbids riders from showing their horses aside. This doesn’t only affect AQHA owners, but many other stock breeds take their cues from the AQHA and follow their rules. Also, many 4-H shows and open horse shows follow the AQHA rules, so this rule means that many sidesaddle riders miss the chance to show our horses aside.

something women only do for fun. Many riders are able to con- tinue riding and showing after an injury when they change to riding aside. Also, riders whose religion forbids them from wearing slacks, jeans or pants are able to honor their religious beliefs while riding aside.
Showing aside isn’t
been a fear that sidesaddle rid- ing is unsafe, uncomfortable or even dangerous. Sidesaddle experts disagree. “Contrary to some rumors, it does not cause injury or pain to the horse or rider. Women have ridden aside safely for centuries, and many women feel more secure in their properly fitted sidesaddle than they do in an astride saddle.” The American Side-

saddle Association needs help to convince the AQHA to change the rules to allow sidesaddle riding. Anyone can contact the AQHA
and let them know they support these rules changes. The ASA is also asking Quarter Horse owners who ride aside or show in open shows aside to send photos and information on their American Quarter Horses and their achieve- ments aside to the AQHA. Commenting on the
proposed rule change, Jennifer Williams, PhD, President of the American Sidesaddle As- sociation, “Many women enjoy riding aside, and it is a shame they cannot show off their horses and skills at AQHA shows. I’m hoping the show committee will change the rules. It is a great chance to show off how versatile the American Quarter Horse is and to teach people about riding aside.”

Sparky is a 9 year old QH that stands 14 3 hands and was a former ranch horse. He passed all his tests yesterday and is one of the really good ones. His personality seems to adapt to his rider and our little Emily pictured here, learned to canter on him. (She told me she trained him yes-
terday). He is a gem and we recommend him for any rider that wants safety, fun and a good horse. He is not a dead head and will go on request, but we loved him in his evaluation of his rider and was so good to her and was very safe and forgiving. These horses are hard to find. HE IS A GOOD ONE! He did all the evaluation protocol in fine order.
Sparky
Soul Man is an 11 year old beautiful registered Paint. He stands 15 1 hands and is a really nice horse. He will do a slow lope, a small nice jog, will side pass, open gates and trail ride all day. This is one of the nicest horses to come to Tonkawood. He definitely is show quality and would be a wonderful 4 H horse, a good western pleasure horse and a great trail horse. He has been trail ridden for years and is safe and dependable. This is a pretty one with a gorgeous mane and tail. He is good for the farrier, is easy to catch, loads well, and very nice to work around. He loves treats! He has passed all the evaluation criteria with flying colors and with style.
If the horse doesn’t suit your needs, we’ll trade out for another of our fine horses! Please check our web site to view them and review our buyer quarantee program.
