Detoxifi cation programs have become very popular over the past few years and are defi ned as the reduction of the toxic properties of a substance. Consuming a diet low in water intake and inadequate fi ber may lead to a sluggish intestinal tract and constipation. In addition, continuous overconsumption of processed or fast foods, as well as having a stressful lifestyle puts a greater demand on our internal organs and digestive system.
Problems along the gastrointestinal tract resulting in improper digestion can cause gas, allergic reactions, heartburn and numerous other prob- lems. When you eat, your body sometimes gets unnecessarily stressed, resulting in typical signs that include bloating or fl atulence. In fact, many people visiting their doctors are there because of gastrointestinal complaints, which includes diarrhea, excess gas, loss of weight, excess mucus, cramping, blood loss, severe constipation. Yet, the most important signs that may take days, months or years to appear are diseases due to insuf- fi cient nutrient assimilation by the body.
One of the best ways to achieve overall wellness is to maintain proper digestion by eating healthy and getting suffi cient rest. Digestion involves many processes and begins with chewing. It is affected by many factors which may result in improper digestion or absorption. Most problems can occur anywhere along the digestion tract from the mouth to the large intestine. Therefore to prevent complications one can consider a pro- gram which is supervised to help to detoxify your body. Examples include; water and juice fasting, herbal supplements as well as a diet detox which can be done after one indulges in a period of over-eating or the consumption of non-nutritious and processed foods. In addition, one can include more fi ber, digestive enzymes and probiotics to maintain a healthy fl ora in the gastrointestinal tract.
A diet with
less processed foods and more fruits and vegetables aids digestion and helps cleanse the digestive tract because of their high-fi ber content. It is believed that desirable bacteria have a positive impact on human health and are a suitable choice since they are safe and effective for intestinal health.
