Playing our part... sharing with others

In 2009/2010...

● Six of our young people and their carers visited Japan in May 2009 to promote children’s hospice work in Japan, and to give the group a trip of a lifetime. The experience was funded by Momiji, a charity promoting links between special-needs and able-bodied young people in the UK and Japan

● Following the success of ‘The Children of Helen House’ BBC series in 2007, a follow-up documentary was broadcast in April 2009*

● Helen & Douglas House hosted visitors from Russia, Sweden, Spain, Ireland, and Japan to learn about the pioneering palliative care delivered by our medical and nursing teams. Visits were also made by Sister Frances Dominica to Slovakia and South Africa to present on this emerging speciality

● The Children’s Commissioner for England, Sir Al Aynsley Green, recognised and acknowledged the importance of the charity’s work on childhood bereavement when he visited us in July

‘I think that other countries deserve to have the same kind of refuge and

opportunities as people here.’ Matt, Douglas House guest, Japan trip 2009

The Children’s Commissioner for England, Sir Al Aynsley Green, recognised the importance of Helen & Douglas House’s work on childhood bereavement
