Bloom volunteers Darlene Kalawsky and Gail Hunnisett were inspired by the internationally recognized SculptureWalk program in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and sought to include sculpture as part of the CCIB’s annual garden tour. They approached local Castlegar resident and internationally recognized sculptor Pat Field about donating a sculpture. Field suggested a more ambitious endeavour, a public art program like the one in Sioux Falls, involving many sculptures that would help rejuvenate the down town core and put Castlegar on the map as a center for public sculpture in Canada.
