Traditionally enrollment in a Sunday School class is done when a student actually comes to the class the first time. While this method is fine, the growing Sunday School must begin to “think outside of the box” and consider additional methods of enrollment. WHAT IS IMPORTANT IS

NOT HOW WE ENROLL, but that we get people into our Sunday Schools. With public schools, community league sports, youth camps, VBS, and colleges now requiring pre-enrollment for participants, the church should add this feature to its Sunday School structure.

SUNDAY SCHOOL ENROLLMENT FESTIVAL

Plan an outside festival-like activity in September. Really use all publicity methods at the church’s disposal

to get the word out to the community and those “unsundayschooled” folks that attend only

preaching at your church. Use balloons, music, and colorful banners around the church. Have food, games, prizes, and lots of activities for youth and adults. Each Sunday School teacher should be present with a special display table that tells about his/her class. Photos and colorful visuals should be displayed on a science fair type backboard on the table. Teachers should have enrollment forms/cards* (for name, age, address, phone number, etc.) and other information sheets ready for folks to enroll. Be creative and keep the excitement going. Have volunteers from the church to serve as greeters and helpers. Have a person using a loud speaker walk around and periodically remind everyone to enroll.

SUNDAY SCHOOL ENROLLMENT SUNDAYS

On each of the four Sundays for the CHC Sunday School Celebration Month during AM service make an appeal to all those folks “who just come to preaching.” Have enrollment cards* ready to pass out, or you may want to include enrollment cards in every bulletin to save time. Don’t be negative pushy; but be positive encouraging. You may want to have the youth to do a short skit about Sunday School. A light- hearted skit might go a long way to getting people enrolled and attending. Just get them enrolled.

INDIVIDUAL SUNDAY SCHOOL RECRUITERS

Train people who want to serve in Sunday School, but who are not called to be teachers, to serve as recruiters for your Sunday School. Train them to recruit and enroll just like we train folks to go out and witness. Train these SSR’s to recruit and enroll at any time or place. Give them plenty of enrollment cards (for name, age, address, phone numbers, etc.) The Sunday School Superintendent weekly meets with the SSR’s to gather the cards.* Copies are made and distributed to Sunday School teachers

*Enrollment cards should be forwarded to Sunday School teachers who are to prepare for those students. The question is invariably asked, “But what if they don’t come?” The teacher then takes information from the card and makes a contact to encourage them to come and remind them of their enrollment. This Is A Great Opportunity For Outreach And Growth For The Sunday School.
