Training level, Rehobeth’s career was cut short due to injuries in her first two Preliminary events. “She injured her check ligament in 2007, at her first Preliminary,” says Elizabeth. “We brought her back a year later and she injured the same leg, but a suspensory this time. So in 2008, I retired her and bred her.” So far, Rehobeth has been as successful in passing along her winning bloodlines as she was in her short lived but rewarding eventing career. “She has had two Premium foals for Oldenburg NA and is currently in foal to Grafenstolz who is an event stallion in the U.K. and Germany,” says Elizabeth. “I’m definitely looking forward to this cross!”

earned the Elite classification with the Oldenburg NA registry, named Premium Select in the AAHA, and holds the honor of receiving the highest score of any mare ever inspected in the United States by the Rheinland Pfalz-Saar International. Elizabeth’s careful breeding had paid off. As with R-Star, Rehobeth was not the easiest horse to

train, but the results were nothing short of incredible. “She had a wicked buck and I ended up sending her to ‘cowboy camp,’ where they round penned her and worked with her,” Elizabeth says. “After those three weeks, she never bucked again. She is a typical Riverman offspring—sensitive and a little distracted—and found it hard to focus at home.” “She was difficult for me to ride—so athletic that I had

trouble staying with her over fences, although the pros loved her. I found it difficult to keep her attention without boring her—I needed repetition—she did not!” From the start of her eventing career, Rehobeth

turned in consistently low dressage scores and rarely finished outside the top three. In 2005, her first year competing, she finished eighth in the USEA Young Event Horse National Championships. She also was named the Reserve Grand Champion at the Fair Hill Breed Show, and finished third at the Dressage at Devon USDF Championship Finals. Elizabeth says that Rehobeth possesses

a great talent—and love—for jumping. “She found any of the jumping easy,” she recalls. “Nothing fazed her on cross-country or in show jumping at any level. Any height, any distance was fine. She found it difficult to focus—she’d be looking at a bird or something as you approached the jump. Although she always jumped, you sometimes wished she was paying a bit more attention!”

40 November/December 2010 “I love just watching her—she is a gorgeous mare and

watching her in the field is wonderful. I love her type, her movement, and her athleticism. She is just what I wanted to breed and what I think should be bred, and I hope she produces more of the same!”

McKersie of Newark, Delaware. “Remi,” as she is known around the barn, was Dawn’s first horse after a brief hiatus from riding. “I didn’t start riding until I was in my early twenties,”

says Dawn. “I did a little jumping back then, but I never felt very confident about it and only jumped about 2’6”. I stopped riding for a number or years and bought Remi in May of 2006. I don’t bounce like I used to and have just been doing lower level dressage.” Remi was bred by Hilltop Farm. Not only did she boast Riverman bloodlines, she also has another top stallion in her pedigree. “Remi is by Riverman and out of a Dutch/TB mare named Valencia,” explains Dawn. “Valencia is by Consul, so the jumping genes are in there!” Hilltop Farm had sold Remi as a

yearling, and eventually the mare landed in training with Pennsylvania based trainer Kim Ziegler. When Dawn began looking for a horse in

2006, Kim brought Remi over to Blue Hill Farm, the home of the well known dressage trainer Jessica Ransehousen and her daughter Missy, as a potential match for Dawn. “Jessica in particular, fell in love with her,” says Dawn. “It was only her second time in an indoor arena, and she

they don't know her name, many will ask 'is that a riverman horse?'"
