Rose decided to take the opportunity to get her breeding business off the ground using Piktorial as her foundation mare. “Tori was easily approved for breeding by the AHHA and I was ready to go,” she says. Embryo transfer (E.T.) was Rose’s first venture

into breeding with Piktorial. Luckily the mare double ovulates, allowing two full siblings to be born via the recipient mares (each embryo is removed from Piktorial and is transferred into a different mare to carry the baby full term.) “The first year we bred her I chose the stallion Liostro,

the sire of Mark Watring’s international superstar, Sapphire. Liostro was then still alive and at the time the last living son of Ladykiller, a famous foundation sire of the Holsteiners. Liostro had sired many international grand prix jumpers and had a fantastic track record for producing top sport horses,” Rose reports. The first year, two full sibling fillies, Ultimate I SE and

Ultimate II SE, were born within days of each other to two different recipient mares in 2004. “The fillies were so beautiful and correct, I bred her again to Liostro the following year, and to my delight she double ovulated again—an E.T. breeder’s dream!” exclaims Rose. “The colts LeonadoSE and LeoneSE were born within weeks of each other to two different mares.” Three out of four of these full siblings are currently in

the sport of eventing, scoring very well (23’s and 24’s in dressage) and top placings in their divisions. Ultimate I went to Lauren Fergusen of Team Tryon, Ultimate II went to French trainer Frederic Bouland of Phoenix Arizona in a partnership. LeonadoSE, a stallion, is in a partnership with Alexis Heilffrich of AH Eventing, also originally a French rider. Both LeonadoSE and his “twin” stallion brother LeoneSE were approved as stallions at the BWP inspections in September 2010. Another filly by Piktorial is Waterford CrystalSE out of the beautiful Holsteiner stallion, Stealth S. This mare has an incredible mind for a four year old who behaves like a seasoned 20 year old horse. She has scope, excellent movement, and good conformation. “Piktorial was also bred to Corrado I, where we have an incredible three

year old stallion named Corazon de CorradoSE. He will be a very large beautiful-moving level headed sport horse. He is not broke yet. Corrado I is one of the top European sires of jumpers in the world. We are very excited about this young prospect,” Rose states. A yearling colt out of Piktorial by Rose’s home-bred stallion Claire de LuneSE (YEH Champion for ‘09 with an 87.78%) won the futurity at Cottonwood FEH, with an 89.3! “He outscored his sire which was pretty amazing. We have incredible plans for this young event prospect and Robyn [Fisher] has her eye on him already. He is practically a clone of Claire de LuneSE,” she says. At age ten, Piktorial just had

her eighth foal, four of which she never carried herself! So far

all of her babies are healthy, have great temperaments, nice movement and the boldness for eventing. Rose believes that “eventing is the best foundation for future show jumping stars.” For the young horses, dressage basics and experience in cross country make a very fit and brave jumper in the end. And so far, Piktorial has been the perfect producing mare for Rose and SE Farm.

Shooting Star Farm’s ORCHIS Bloodlines, bloodlines, bloodlines. No

matter which way you slice it, Orchis, owned by Scot Tolman of Shooting Star Farm, screams top Dutch Warmblood bloodlines. In fact, Scot bought her sight unseen—without even seeing a photo—the minute he

saw her stellar pedigree come over the fax machine. “I received a call from a woman

in Canada who had imported this liver chestnut filly from Holland. As a yearling, she had a typical “Jazz” temperament, hot and difficult to handle from the ground,” says Scot with a chuckle. “I jumped at the chance to buy her as a future broodmare to add to my breeding program.” Orchis was bred in The Netherlands by top

breeder Gerard Vervoorn, and is by the famous Dutch stallion Jazz who is by Olympic Cocktail. Her mother is Charites by Roemer, another popular stallion who stood in Holland and later here in the U.S. at Iron Spring Farm. Charites was ranked number one on the KWPN’s top 250
