Emma’s Kid Friendly Restaurant Review Eddie’s Pizza Restaurant 2108 W. 15th Street • Plano, TX 75075 • (972) 424-6706 by Emma Bonin When we first walked in to
Eddie’s on last Tuesday evening, we immediately saw some friends of ours. They had been to Eddie’s before and had some recommendations for us. As we were being seated in the next room, we saw more friends. The restaurant was really crowded, especially for a Tuesday evening at 8:00pm, so we knew we were at a great neighborhood place. We were seated near a faux
fireplace. The restaurant is very cozy with brick décor and flat screen TV’s. My dad and brother were at the Maverick’s game, which was playing on one of the TV’s, so my mom and I watched some of the game.
We started with fried
mozzarella sticks. They were served with marinara dipping sauce. Mmmmm… very good! I ordered the meatball sub and my mom chose Eddie’s Special pasta. When our food arrived we asked for take home containers right away, because the meals were huge! I really liked the meatball sub. The homemade French bread was delicious. My mom liked her pasta. It was sautéed chicken, green peppers, onions, banana peppers and penne pasta. Many tables around us had
ordered pizza. It looked really good, too. They serve the pizza on elevated trays. Next time we get pizza, we will order it from Eddie’s.
Alexandria’s Book Review
The Mitten A Review by Alexandria Battle
By Jan Brett 36 pages • Age 4-8 Penguin Group (October 1996)
Jan Brett grew up in
Massachusetts by the sea, where she lives now. Surprisingly, Brett’s aspiration as a child was not to be an author, but an illustrator—she read and drew a lot, and today has visited many beautiful places like the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Africa and Japan. The many places she has visited contribute to her beautiful picture books—and this book in particular is a great testament to its Ukrainian roots, as well as a wonderful holiday story. The Mitten was a tale I was vaguely familiar with. I had heard it a long time ago, and coming across it recently made me eager to hear the story again. Fortunately, it was just as cute and innocent a tale as it

had been the first time I heard it, as a little kid—and those side pictures helped too.
Nicki, a sweet young boy, insists one winter that his grandmother make him two perfectly white mittens. His grandmother knows better—if she makes him mittens of that color with all the snow outside, he’ll most certainly lose one! But Nicki insists—if he is to have any mittens, they will be white and nothing else. With a sigh, his grandmother gives in—and so the mittens are white, and Nicki goes out to play.
But adults have an awful habit of being right—no sooner has Nicki started to play than he loses one of his mittens and, without realizing

it, continues along. Then, animals begin to find Nicki’s mitten—a mole, a rabbit, a badger, an owl, and many more, each stretching the mitten as they find and claim a space in it as their own.
But just how much can a mitten take? The mitten and the animals in it are pushed and prodded, squeezed almost to the point of suffocation. Will the mitten be able to survive both the forces of Nature and the animals who find it a cozy place to curl up in? I recommend reading on if you want to find out! I have not read any more of
Jan Brett’s books, but I believe I can safely recommend The Hat, On Noah’s Ark, and The Umbrella.
We were too full for dessert, but they had cheesecake and ice cream that we will try another time. We will definitely return and bring the whole family next time.
Eddie’s Pizza is located 2108
W. 15th in Plano. You can dine in or order out. Either way, it’s a great neighborhood pizza and pasta place. We hope to see you there!

Celebrating the Chinese
New Year This year, the Chinese New Year falls on February 3 and 2011 is the year of the Rabbit!
Do your children ever ask why the Chinese don't celebrate the New Year at the same time we do? I love the opportunity to teach my children about how and why other cultures celebrate different traditions and the Chinese New Year is always a popular one with children. Who doesn't love colorful costumes and amazing dancing dragons? The rabbit, this year's animal is said to have the positive traits of being kind, gentle, naturally lucky and even tempered but suffers from being overly sentimental. A few famous people who were born in the year of the Rabbit are: Drew Barrymore, and Angelina Jolie, soccer star David Beckham. To find out your own or your child's animal, visit http://

ways to celebrate the Chinese New Year with your kids or to teach them more about the history and origins of this special event, visit www.
