Fall ›› Fall in the Bancroft District is one of the best places in Ontario to view the fall colours. The beautiful hardwood forests turn to brilliant flaming oranges, golds and reds. There are many benefits to visit-
ing the Bancroft region during the fall season. It’s not too hot or too cold, there are no bugs and the summer crowds have gone home. The water is too cold for swim-
ming, but boating and canoeing offer the most breathtaking scenes of the trees in the midst of their changing colours. Plan a trip to enjoy the scenery,
a few days fishing, mineral collect- ing or discover the arts by joining a studio tour.
spring ›› Spring has the community buzzing with excitement as the trees and plants start to bud and flowers start to peek their way out of the wet ground. It is a great time to enjoy picnics
and the beauty of new life by the sparkling waters. Take a walk back to Egan Chutes to watch the York River thunderously rush through the water carved rock sides, creat- ing a cool spray of mist. Due to the Bancroft areas
unique geology we are known
worldwide as the Mineral Capital of Canada. For the Rockhound spring is the promise of another ex- citing mineral collecting season.
summer ›› Summer brings thousands of tourists to the Bancroft district. With so many activities to
choose from it’s hard to decide where to start. There are many public beaches and boat launches for the water lovers to splash into. Hiking, bird watching, biking,
kayaking, canoeing and ATVing are only some of the activities available in Bancroft under the summer sun.
rockhound gemBoree ›› The Rockhound Gemboree is the highlight of the summer season, held annually on the four days pre- ceding the Civic Holiday Monday in August. There are over 100 dealers that
offer a stunning array of mineral specimens, gems, fossils, gemstone jewellery, as well as lapidary and beading craft supplies. Come to the show to pan for
gold, seek expert mineral identifi- cation or have your picture taken with Rocky the Rockhound. There are three venues which
provide a unique variety of activi- ties for every visitor.
